Foundation Stage Newsletter Spring 2019

Summer Term 2019

In Foundation Stage 2 our exciting Summer term topics for 2019 are:

How does your garden grow?  and Growing big, big, bigger

We will be unlocking our curiosity key as we explore our outdoor environment and find out about snails, bees, orchards, vegetable gardens and flowers.  The children will be involved in growing a variety of plants and helping to look after them.  One of our special events this term will be making and tasting honey on toast – yum yum.

We will continue to encourage positive personal characteristics through our ‘Building a Better Me’ whole school initiative.  The children will learn about the similarities and differences between growing up in Kenya (Handa’s home) and children’s own personal experiences as a way to further unlock the respect and curiosity keys.

We have chosen a selection of books and non-fiction resources to support our topics, including Jasper’s Beanstalk, The Very Greedy Bee, Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell,  Snail Trail, The Snail and the Whale, Handa’s Surprise, Handa’s Hens along with a variety of non-fiction books on growing and Africa.

This term is an important term for children to consolidate their independence, resilience and teamwork keys as they prepare for their move into Key Stage 1.
