Dear children, parents and friends of Orchard School,
Welcome to Orchard Primary and Nursery School. I hope you enjoy looking through our web-site which contains a wealth of information and photographs, which will help you to understand why Orchard is such a special place to be part of!
Orchard School is situated at the side of the main road which runs through Kirkby, a few yards from the famous ‘Kirkby Cross’. The impressive Victorian facade, viewed from the road, gives little clue to the modern facilities which lie beyond it. This includes a purpose built nursery and an additional teaching block which houses five classrooms and a large, airy group room. The large playing field at the rear of the school has lovely views of the old church beyond. The ‘old’ building is well maintained, nicely decorated and furnished and has modern lighting and toilet facilities. The playground is attractively painted with games and activities to occupy the children during break times. The nursery and reception class have their own enclosed outdoor play areas. The older children enjoy lunchtime play and games lessons on the field, adventure playground and on our new M.U.G.A. (multi-use games area). The whole site is securely surrounded by fences and hedges.
Orchard is very much a ‘family school’. We work hard to provide a caring, secure environment where children feel happy and safe, so that they can develop to the best of their potential. The children are expected to work hard and are helped to gain knowledge, develop a wide range of skills and concepts, and an awareness of the world around them. We want them to become independent learners and self reliant and to have self respect, confidence and self discipline.
Orchard has a dedicated, highly skilled team, who strive for the upmost success for each and every child; have a caring and supportive ethos and are passionate about creating a stimulating, safe learning environment. Staff promote an ethos of working hard to achieve your best and we are proud of the high academic achievements at our school. Children are also encouraged to be their very best and personal development holds equal importance.
Through our broad and stimulating curriculum, we offer a range of opportunities and experiences to allow every child to shine and to unlock hidden talents. Every child can do amazing things and it is our goal that they do. We already offer an excellent sporting programme and our music provision is second to none but we also strive to find our future historians and scientists, artists and designers so that each and every Orchard child will move on, confident, independent and resilient, ready for their secondary journey and ready to make a positive contribution to society in future!
We are extremely fortunate to have a strong governing body and supportive parents and families and continue to do our best at all times to ensure that Orchard School remains the positive and forward-thinking place that it has become over the years.
At Orchard Primary and Nursery School (OPS), we have a mission - to provide Opportunities for children to realise their Potential and achieve Success in a happy, safe and stimulating environment.
I hope our web-site is reflective of both this mission and our ethos but invite you to come and meet us and see the school in action if you feel it could be the right choice for your child.
I look forward to meeting you!
