At Orchard Primary School we recognise that Art and Design stimulates creativity and imagination. It provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a special way of understanding and responding to the world. It enables all children of all abilities, from nursery to Y6, to unlock their creativity key and communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form and pattern. They will use different materials and processes, building on year by year, to represent their ideas. Engaging with art means they can be expressive and free to be themselves.

We encourage a ‘have a go’ attitude at Orchard in all areas of the curriculum and in art there is no better place to develop that sense of freedom.

We encourage children to explore ideas and meanings through the work of a broad range of artists and designers. Through learning about the roles and functions of art, they can explore the impact it has had on contemporary life and that of different times and cultures. We want them to appreciate and enjoy the art that enriches all of our lives.
