At Orchard, Scientific enquiry begins in nursery where children set out on their unique journey towards understanding the world around them. Through exploring their environment and answering simple questions, children will begin to unlock their natural curiosity. As children progress, they will have the opportunity to develop their scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through enquiries, investigations and experiments – continuously developing and building their scientific methods of working, alongside the acquisition of key vocabulary and sticky knowledge across all areas of the curriculum. Children will be encouraged to develop independent thinking with questioning, prediction and evaluation all being key areas of development. This will be centered around a clear context, linking science to real life in both the world today and in the future. We aim to provide our children with a fun and inspirational curriculum that will promote the sciences, encouraging children to develop personal interests and encourage further learning. They will have a firm foundation on which to build academically as they move through primary school and onto KS3.
